Lithium Li

Lithium is a metal element, known as the green energy metal and "white oil", widely used in energy storage, chemical industry, medicine, metallurgy, electronics industry and other fields. Lithium is located in the second cycle of the periodic table of the elements IA, element symbol Li. Its atomic number is 3, atomic weight 6.941, melting point is 180.5 ℃, boiling point of 1342 ℃, specific heat capacity of 3.58 kJ/kg-K, corresponding to the monomers for the silver-white soft metal, in all known metals in the lightest specific gravity. It can react with water, soluble in nitric acid, liquid ammonia and other solutions.

Lithium is an alkali metal, but its compounds are not as typical as other alkali metals because lithium has

a high charge density and a stable helium-type double electron layer, which makes lithium susceptible to

polarization of other molecules or ions, and not susceptible to polarization itself. This fact affects its stability

and that of its compounds. In addition, because lithium has the most negative electrode potential, it is the

most metal-active of the known elements (including radioactive elements).

Lithium and its compounds have several industrial applications, including heat-resistant glass and ceramics, lithium grease lubricants, flux additives for iron, steel and aluminium production, lithium metal batteries, and lithium-ion batteries. These uses consume more than three-quarters of lithium production.

Applications

Battery industry: Lithium is widely used in the battery industry, especially in lithium batteries. Lithium batteries

have the advantages of high energy density, lightweight, long lifespan, and no pollution, and are therefore

widely used in fields such as laptops, mobile phones, digital cameras, and electric vehicles.

Glass industry: Lithium has a melting aid effect in glass manufacturing, which can reduce melting temperature,

simplify production processes, lower energy consumption, and improve the density, smoothness, and strength

of glass. Lithium containing glass is used in fields such as chemistry, electronics, and optics.

Ceramic industry: Lithium in ceramics can lower the sintering temperature, improve the flowability and adhesion

of ceramics, and enhance their heat resistance, acid and alkali resistance and other properties. Lithium pyroxene

low thermal expansion ceramics are used for microwave tray, electromagnetic stove panel, etc.

Lubricating grease industry: Lithium based lubricating grease has the characteristics of good water resistance, high

temperature resistance, and low temperature resistance, and is widely used in equipment such as aircraft, tanks,

and automobiles.

Other industries: Lithium is also used in the metallurgical industry as a deoxidizer or dechlorination agent to

improve the performance of alloys; In the field of medicine, lithium has a regulatory effect on the central nervous

system and can calm the nerves; In addition, lithium can also be used to prevent and treat cardiovascular diseases.
