Samarium Cobalt Magnetic Material

Rare earth permanent magnet material is a kind of magnetic material which is composed of samarium and neodymium mixed rare earth metal and transition metal (such as cobalt, iron, etc.), sintered by powder metallurgy and magnetized by magnetic field. Rare earth permanent magnets are divided into samarium cobalt (SmCo) permanent magnets and NdFeB (NdFeB) permanent magnets. Among them, the magnetic energy product of SmCo magnets is between 15--30MGOe, and the magnetic energy product of NdFeB magnets is between 27--50MGOe, which is known as the "permanent magnet king" and is the highest magnetic permanent magnet material.

Samarium Cobalt magnets (also known as SmCo magnets) are another type of permanent magnet. A big advantage of SmCo magnets is that they can operate at temperatures up to 300C. SmCo magnets are widely used in applications in which high operating temperature and high corrosion and oxidation resistance are crucial.

SmCo magnet, generally written as SmCo5 and Sm2Co17, is prepared by powder metallurgy. Currently, this magnetic material is second only to NdFeB. The advantages of SmCo include high magnetic stability, temperature resistance, and excellent anti-corrosion performance, which make it a perfect alternative for sintered NdFeb magnets under a particular environment. But the hardness and brittleness of SmCo limit its processability.

The main characteristics of samarium cobalt permanent magnet are high magnetic properties and good temperature performance. The maximum operating temperature can reach 250-350 degrees Celsius. Compared with Ndfeb magnets, samarium cobalt magnets are more suitable for working in high temperature environments. It is suitable for manufacturing a variety of high-performance permanent magnet motors and very complex working environment applications. In addition, the samarium cobalt magnet has a strong corrosion resistance, and its surface generally does not need plating treatment.
